During World War 2 the Germans built a camp on open ground at Langhaugen. It was known as "Brakkebyen" (Barrack Town) and used to house the homeless after the war. The buildings were still standing in 1951. In the 1950's and 60's this area of Bergen was developed and by 1961 the buildings had been demolished and Langhaugen skole built on the former German camp.
